New World Mall

President of Harvest International, Charles G. Chan, has successfully brokered a “talk-of-the-town” deal with Vornado Realty Trust in downtown Flushing, steps away from the thriving intersection of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue. After sitting vacant for ten years, the newly renovated building (formerly occupied by Alexander’s and then Caldor Department Store) re-opened as the New World Mall on April 29, 2011.

The first of its kind life-style center serving the community’s needs, regardless of rain or shine, commuters as well as residents and nearby workforce alike can now satisfy their daily livelihood needs through a one-stop indoor shopping experience – and not to mention providing over hundreds of business and job opportunities to the community. The mall boasts an 80,000 square foot bi-level underground parking garage, adjacent to the Main Street #7 subway station, in front of 13 bus lines and one block to the LIRR train station in a densely populated and thriving multi-ethnic mixed urban environment. The mall’s GLA amounts to 170,000 square feet in addition to the 80,000 square foot parking garage on four retail and restaurant floors with skylight atrium.

The lower level is an international food court featuring 30 concepts from around the world. The 1st level is anchored by a mega food mart with shops and service venues, while the 2nd level has hair care, nail care, clothing boutiques as well as gifts shops and electronic stores. The 3rd level is occupied by a restaurant & catering hall with KTV private VIP rooms and a soon-to-open roof top café and bar. The food court is rated as one of the busiest and most successful food courts in the New York Metro area, whereas patrons at times have to wait to gain access into the food court itself.

Mr. Chan was graciously invited to join in and conceptualize the redevelopment of this mall as one of the five partners of the investment group in launching the first of its kind of vertical life style center concept in this part of the world.
