Mr.
Charles Chan, the President of Harvest International, announced
on development of the first upscale luxury goods Lifestyle Center
targeting the affluent Asian community is planned for site formerly
occupied by East Lake Restaurant site, on Main Street in Flushing,
New York. The announcement was made at the Grand Opening Reception
of Harvest’s new Flushing Office on Sept. 28, 2006. Harvest
International is an international commercial real estate firm,
headquartered in Long island, serving global clients coast to coast.
Mr. Chan noted that the large Asian community
in Flushing consists of immigrants who have worked hard and risen
up the economic scale over recent years and have now created a
more up-scale market not only for world class cuisine but also
for luxury goods in high fashion. “This new Lifestyle Center
will provide an enchanting environment for high end luxury good
shoppers and customers seeking outstanding Asian cuisine,” Mr.
Chan said in announcing the development.
The new development will consist of a 250,000/sf
luxury mixed-use condominium tower sitting atop a 3-level upscale
shopping mall with a 200-car underground parking garage. The mall
will focus on satisfying the increasing demand for luxury goods
from the increasingly affluent Asian community and from the burgeoning
tourist population from the Far East who demand the convenience
and the ease of communication in their own language and cultural
customs.
Mr. Chan said that Flushing, being the center
of the influx of this new breed of consumers, is growing dramatically,
both socially and economically, and its renaissance has been unaffected
by the recent downturn in the real estate market. “It’s
high time that an upscale lifestyle center of this magnitude be
planned for this unique and prosperous market place,” Mr.
Chan commented. Headed by the former East Lake Restaurant Ownership Consortium, this project
will be built on nearly an acre of land at intersection of Main Street and
Franklin Ave., in the heart of Flushing. The prestigious site is accessible
by the No. 7 subway line, the Long Island Railroad, and by 12 bus lines,
making Manhattan just a short trip away. The site is also just a few minutes
away for the internationally-known National Tennis Center.
Flushing is also the first entry point in Queens
off the highways and parkways from Long Island. Thus, the underground
parking facility in the new mall will provide both convenience
and security for those driving to the mall.
The 16-story luxury residential tower, equipped
with a swimming pool and two levels of community service facilities,
will contain approximately 6 duplex apartments with balconies;
and the Manhattan skyline will be visible from some of the units
on higher floors.
The Project is in its final approval stage and
demolition of the old buildings has already begun. Occupancy is
expected in early Spring of 2008. Mr. Chan said that the development
will be the first and only upscale boutique style shopping mall
in the area with an atrium lobby with a wide selection of world-class
luxury goods to choose from. “The sales staffs will be required
to have bi-lingual skills so that all English speaking patrons
can also enjoy this unique shopping paradise.”
At the moment, the mall will be called “The
Fashion Walk,” Mr. Chan announced during the grand opening
ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 28th that was attended by his
father, Mr. Chan Siu Fung, a highly renowned and famed Cantonese
Opera actor who is best known for his theme song in the opera of “The
Butterfly Story” in South East Asia.
